© Azure Communications, Inc. Furry Jayhawk fan says, “Tell Coach I’m ready to help the team anyway I can.” Rio the cat stands 12” tall on four legs and 24” on two and weighs 16 pounds. He has the ability to extend to an incredible 36” when going after the ball [comparable to Nick Collison, if Nick were a cat…]. At age 12, Rio is a mature gamer. “Look what MJ did at this stage of his life – I’m just as agile. Maybe my leaping ability is down a bit, but I can run rings around most humans.” Rio’s “Mom” is a 4th generation Jayhawk. She says Rio suits up for all Jayhawk games and plays his heart out. When the game isn’t on TV in New Mexico, they tune in over the internet to the Jayhawk Radio Network. “Rio is just passionate about KU Basketball,” she says. “He’s a huge fan of the whole Jayhawk team, present and past. And there’s the soul of a lion in him.” The feline Hawker is known for his great feet [all four of them] and his uncanny ability to know where the ball is at all times. His turnover rate is almost zero. “When he gets hold of that ball, look out! He just gets his claws into it and won’t let go. And his break is so fast, he’s to the basket [or in the closet] faster that any human can keep up.”
